Vision


The Department of antiquities and comparative civilizations consists of two divisions: the Antiquities division, and the comparative civilizations division, and is interested in archaeological studies and comparative civilizations related to human remnants represented by ancient architecture, sculpture and other arts such as painting, mosaics, wall and decorative drawings of various kinds, pottery and ancient coins of human civilizations since the prehistoric era, ancient Eastern civilizations such as Mesopotamia, ancient Egypt, the Levant and the Maghreb, as well as the traces of Greek, Roman and Byzantine civilization up to the traces of Islamic civilization in various eras.

Message


The mission of the department is to highlight our heritage, which abounds in most of the archaeological cities in Libya, which includes various civilizations starting from prehistoric times, through the Canaanite, Greek and Roman civilization, and finally the Islamic Civilization, by introducing and preserving all these civilizations. 

Goals


The objectives of the department are to qualify and prepare qualified and highly qualified elements needed by society in the fields of university teaching and scientific research, which requires the preparation of a researcher capable of carrying out archaeological research exploration, survey, organization and publication of the results. In addition, the development of scientific cooperation with academic institutions in Libya or in the countries of the North and south, through participation or by organizing an invitation to hold conferences and specialized scientific seminars on the study of Antiquities.
